The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has swiftly carried out an on-site assessment of a pivotal bridge linking Yola to Gombe Road, which recently crumbled, resulting in substantial disruption to transportation in the region.
The incident, situated in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has left travelers and merchandise stranded, significantly impacting commerce and movement between the two states. The collapse is believed to have been triggered by structural vulnerabilities exacerbated by intense seasonal rainfall.
Director General NEMA Mrs. Zubaida Umar promptly initiated a thorough evaluation to gauge the scale of the destruction and propose essential remedial measures.
The evaluation team, spearheaded by Mr. Musa Yakubu from NEMA Yola operations office, collaborated with the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) of Lamurde LGA.
Preliminary reports from the evaluation reveal that the collapse has severely hampered crucial infrastructure, creating a substantial impediment to transportation and causing notable delays for emergency services. Local inhabitants are advised to steer clear of the vicinity until further notification, as the site presents significant safety hazards.
Representing NEMA, Mr. Musa Yakubu underscored the pressing requirement for governmental assistance to ensure the adequate upkeep of such essential infrastructure.
He also implored local residents to exercise patience during the reconstruction process, which might entail a considerable duration but will ultimately yield a sturdier and safer connection.
