As Muslims around the globe commemorate the commencement of the new Islamic Year, 1446 AH, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has extended his greetings to fellow Muslims and all Nigerians.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, officially proclaimed Sunday, July 7, 2024, as the inaugural day of Muharram, signifying the inception of the Islamic year 1446, post Hijrah.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy President of the Senate encouraged Nigerians to adopt the values of empathy, harmony, and mutual assistance.
“As we observe the advent of the new Islamic Year, 1446 AH, let us contemplate the significance and historical importance of the Hijra, as well as the overarching teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and endeavor to emulate his virtues,” he expressed.
He reaffirmed the dedication of the National Assembly to devising essential legislation to tackle the prevailing issues confronting the nation.
He implored the populace to continue lending their support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ensuring them that the policies crafted by the president will effectively address the country’s challenges.
“With our backing in the legislature and the comprehension of the Nigerian populace, Insha Allah, a prosperous future is guaranteed, where prosperity will be accessible to all,” he articulated.
