The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has petitioned the Oyo State Commissioner of Police over the alleged murder of Pa Biliaminu Taiwo in Fiditi, Afijio Local Government Area, in 2019, demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect, Ojo Akinlabi.
MURIC said the petition followed the reported arrest of Akinlabi in connection with the killing of Taiwo, who was allegedly hacked to death inside a mosque in November 2019.
The petition, submitted on Thursday, October 22, 2026, was acknowledged by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan.
The Secretary of MURIC in Oyo State, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, said the organisation was demanding that the police conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that justice was served in accordance with the law.
He stressed the need for the police to handle the case diligently and ensure that the suspect was brought before a competent court.
MURIC also alleged that Akinlabi had a history of violent attacks, including the use of poisoned knives, describing him as a potential threat to public safety and peaceful coexistence.
The organisation urged the police to ensure that the case was not neglected and that appropriate legal procedures were followed in bringing the suspect to justice.
