The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has dismissed reports circulating online concerning an Auditor-General’s report on the commission, describing them as another attempt to blackmail and distract it from its activities.
In a statement signed by the management of NIDCOM, the commission said it would not be distracted by the reports or engage in an unnecessary public exchange over the matter.
NIDCOM said it would respond appropriately whenever it is formally invited by relevant authorities, particularly the committees of the National Assembly and the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
The commission maintained that it remains committed to transparency and accountability in the discharge of its responsibilities.
“When NIDCOM is formally informed and asked to report to the relevant agencies, particularly the National Assembly committees and the AGF’s office, it will,” the statement said.
The commission further accused unnamed organisations and individuals of attempting to blackmail and extort ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), saying it would not be drawn into an exchange with such persons or groups.

It stressed that NIDCOM remains open and transparent in all its actions and would provide necessary explanations to the appropriate authorities whenever required.
“NIDCOM remains open and transparent in all its actions and will answer to the appropriate organisations when so asked,” the management stated.
