The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has charged members of the Sub-Committees for the 67th Regular National Council on Health (NCH) to demonstrate diligence, professionalism, integrity and objectivity as preparations begin for the November 2026 meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The charge was given during the inauguration of the Sub-Committees for the 67th NCH in Abuja on Thursday.
The 67th Regular National Council on Health is scheduled to hold from November 16 to 20, 2026, under the theme, “From Commitment to Results: Delivering Quality and Equitable Healthcare for All Nigerians.”
Represented at the inaugural meeting by the Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. John Ovuoraye, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare described the National Council on Health as a critical platform for coordination, policy dialogue and decision-making within Nigeria’s health sector.
She said the Technical Committee and its various Sub-Committees provide the foundation for developing sound, evidence-based and implementable recommendations for consideration by the Council.
The Permanent Secretary commended members for accepting the responsibility and making themselves available to contribute to the success of the 67th NCH, noting that their participation reflected a shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s health system and improving the wellbeing of Nigerians.
She urged the members to approach their assignments with open minds and a strong commitment to achieving results, while also encouraging constructive engagement between the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Nasarawa State Local Organising Committee.
“The quality of the work produced by these Sub-Committees will have a direct bearing on the effectiveness of the recommendations that will be presented to the National Council on Health,” the Permanent Secretary stated.
Also speaking, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Shekwonugaza Gwamna, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Hassan, welcomed participants and reaffirmed the state’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Ministry towards a successful 67th NCH.
He said the meeting offered an opportunity for the state’s Local Organising Committee to present progress made so far, receive guidance from the Federal Ministry and strengthen preparations for the conference.
The meeting focused on key preparatory issues, including the formal inauguration of the Sub-Committees, clarification of the roles and responsibilities of chairmen and members, review and finalisation of the logo for the 67th NCH, as well as guidance on the appropriate memorandum format and timely submission of memoranda by states.
Members of the Nasarawa State Local Organising Committee participated virtually, while officials and members from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare attended physically.
