The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc have strengthened their partnership towards improved coordination of water and road infrastructure development across Lagos State.
The development followed a high-level courtesy and familiarisation visit by the LWC delegation, led by its Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, to the Julius Berger Nigeria office in Ijora, Lagos, on Wednesday.
He stressed the importance of maintaining cordial relationships with neighbouring organisations and strategic stakeholders, noting that strong relationships established today could create opportunities for greater cooperation in the future.
The meeting focused particularly on the need for closer coordination between road construction and water infrastructure projects to prevent conflicts, minimise disruptions and ensure the delivery of durable infrastructure, especially across Lagos Island and adjoining areas.
Representing Julius Berger, Regional Commercial Manager, Region West, Mr Alexander Bauer, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable engineering solutions, stressing the need for early engagement and proper technical coordination before construction works commence.
The two organisations also discussed access to project drawings and technical information. Julius Berger explained that the release of detailed project plans would require the appropriate approval from its client, prompting both sides to agree on stronger engagement with the Lagos State Government to facilitate necessary approvals.
Water infrastructure planning and the sustainable management of underground water resources also featured prominently during the meeting.
The LWC delegation emphasised the importance of accurate pipeline information to guide future infrastructure projects and ensure that road construction and other urban development activities are properly aligned with existing water networks.
The meeting further expressed concern over uncoordinated borehole drilling and its potential impact on groundwater resources and the ecosystem.
The stakeholders noted that strengthening reliable and centralised public water supply would reduce dependence on individual boreholes, protect underground water resources and promote sustainable access to potable water.
Both organisations also agreed on the importance of proactive information sharing on construction activities, road conditions, project schedules and possible disruptions.
Security and community considerations were equally discussed, with Julius Berger highlighting its engagement with relevant authorities towards improving security infrastructure within the area.
The engagement was attended by senior officials from both organisations, including LWC Executive Director, Operations, Engr. Helen Omolanke Taiwo; Director, Distribution, Engr. Bolaji Ogunlewe; Director, Legal, Barrister ’Lanre Fashola; and Director, Consultancy, Technical and Engineering Services, Mrs. Odimayo Olayinka.
For Julius Berger, Bauer was accompanied by Engr. Gbenga Osunlana, Deputy Project Coordinator; Mr. Bolaji Johnson, Assistant Project Coordinator; and Engr. Rasheedat Anifowoshe, Senior Liaison Officer.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining open communication, improving technical coordination and exploring further areas of collaboration.
The partnership is expected to strengthen synergy between water and road infrastructure planning while supporting the development of a more coordinated, resilient and sustainable infrastructure network for Lagos State.
