The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) (CHSR) has commended the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, , for his professionalism and commitment to justice in the investigation of the Ajiran killings.
The commendation was delivered by CHSR President, , during a visit to the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Lagos, where he presented a formal letter recognising Jimoh’s role in ensuring a thorough investigation and prosecution of suspects linked to the killings.
Omotehinse noted that CHSR had closely monitored the case since the killing of in 2023 and consistently advocated for justice, including the arrest and prosecution of all those involved.
He added that the situation escalated following the killing of another community member, , in 2024, which intensified public outcry and demands for accountability.
According to him, CHSR organised protests and engaged relevant authorities over concerns surrounding the case, stressing that the eventual arrest and prosecution of suspects had helped restore public confidence in law enforcement.
“We have seen a police officer who acted professionally and stood his ground to ensure that victims get justice,” Omotehinse said.
He further urged the police to remain steadfast and ensure that the ongoing prosecution is pursued to its logical conclusion.
Responding, Jimoh assured residents of the Ajiran community that justice would prevail, reiterating the commitment of the to thorough investigation and prosecution of criminal cases.
He disclosed that two suspects had earlier been arrested and charged to court, while a third suspect, , who fled the country, was recently apprehended and arraigned alongside the others.
Jimoh explained that Akanbi was declared wanted after fresh evidence linked him to the crimes, noting that his arrest was made possible through collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the .
He commended INTERPOL Nigeria and its Benin Republic counterpart for tracking and facilitating the suspect’s return to Nigeria.
“If you commit an offence anywhere in the world, it is only a matter of time before the law catches up with you,” Jimoh said.
