The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an Islamic human rights organization, has declared former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Isa Ali Pantami, as eminently qualified to contest for the governorship of Gombe State, following his emergence as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 28, 2026, and signed by the Executive Director, Ishaq Akintola, the group maintained that while it remains generally nonpartisan, it would not withhold support from any candidate it considers competent, regardless of party affiliation.
MURIC stated that Pantami’s emergence as the PDP governorship flagbearer followed his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary arrangement in Gombe State. The group congratulated both the former minister and the PDP, describing the development as politically significant.
According to the statement, MURIC expressed strong confidence in Pantami’s academic and religious background, describing him as well-suited to provide leadership in a predominantly Muslim state. It further urged voters in Gombe to support his candidacy at the polls.

The organization also reiterated that its stance is not tied to partisan politics, noting that it had no objections to Pantami’s new political platform, the PDP, or its presidential candidate, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, whom it described as having conducted himself with “decency and dignity” after leaving office.
MURIC emphasized that its position is rooted in what it considers merit-based endorsement, insisting that qualified leadership should transcend political party lines.
