A Civil Society Organisation, the Kogi East Political and Economic Summit Group, has declared support for Senator Jibril Isa Echocho amid rising controversy over the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the group’s Convener, Okpanachi Jacob, accused unnamed political interests of sponsoring campaigns to discredit the senator despite what he described as his record of developmental interventions across Kogi East Senatorial District.
Jacob alleged that some of the criticisms against Echocho were being driven by actors within the Kogi State Government seeking to influence the outcome of the APC primary process.
“Everything they mentioned is not in line with the truth. Senator Jibril Isa Echocho has helped to polish the image of the APC in Kogi East,” he said.
The group maintained that the senator enjoys broad acceptance across the district, citing projects it claimed he facilitated, including healthcare facilities, school infrastructure, boreholes, road construction, and agricultural support programmes across various communities.
It further noted that Echocho’s ranking status in the National Assembly and his leadership of key committees had helped attract federal opportunities and appointments to the district.
“Anybody who says Senator Jibril Isa has not done anything should go and verify these projects in the constituency,” another member of the group stated.
The organisation also rejected calls for the Kogi East senatorial seat to be rotated away, insisting that the district remains politically disadvantaged despite its population size and the absence of governorship representation.
While noting that the APC leadership has yet to officially announce the outcome of the primary, the group appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and party leaders to ensure fairness and transparency in the process.

“The best the APC can do for us in Kogi East is to return Senator Echocho,” the group added.
The development comes amid intensifying political consultations, alignments, and power struggles within Kogi State as stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
