The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has donated 400 bags of fertiliser to farmers in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State in a strategic move aimed at enhancing food production and deepening civil-military cooperation in insecurity-affected communities.
The intervention, carried out through the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), took place on Thursday at the Palace of the Emir of Maru, drawing attendance from government officials, military officers, traditional leaders, and community members.
The fertiliser distribution forms part of the Nigerian Army’s corporate social responsibility efforts and is designed to support farmers ahead of the 2026 farming season, particularly in areas grappling with the impact of banditry and insecurity.
Speaking at the event, the Theatre Commander, Major General Warrah Idris, who was represented by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Usman Abdullahi, said the initiative underscores the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring livelihoods and rebuilding trust in affected communities.
He emphasised that beyond kinetic operations, the military remains dedicated to fostering peace and stability through community-focused interventions. He also reaffirmed the resolve of security agencies to sustain ongoing offensives against terrorism and criminal elements across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
The commander urged beneficiaries to utilise the fertilisers effectively during the farming season and called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely intelligence.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Honourable Laminu Dansadau, described the gesture as timely, noting that it would significantly boost agricultural productivity and strengthen the local economy.

Similarly, the Emir of Maru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Gado Maigari, commended the COAS for the intervention and assured that the fertilisers would be distributed transparently to genuine farmers across the emirate.
The event featured the symbolic presentation of fertilisers to selected beneficiaries, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs, marking a renewed partnership between the military and the local community in addressing both security and economic challenges.
