The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to strengthening security operations in Nigeria’s North-East following a three-day operational assessment of Sector 4 in Adamawa State.
The assessment, conducted between April 30 and May 2, 2026, focused on evaluating troop readiness, addressing emerging threats, and enhancing collaboration with the Adamawa State Government to improve response mechanisms and safeguard lives and property.
During a visit to the Government House in Yola, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, who represented Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, commended the military for its sustained efforts in maintaining peace despite recent security challenges.
She reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening its security architecture through investments in human capital, surveillance systems, and digital technology to boost intelligence gathering and response time. Farauta also highlighted the critical role of local security actors, including vigilantes, hunters, and forest guards, describing them as indispensable partners in combating insecurity.
“Adamawa State remains committed to maintaining its status as a safe haven. We will continue to support ongoing operations and enhance safety across the state,” she said.
In his remarks, Major General Abubakar said the visit was part of ongoing efforts to reassess and reinforce military strategies in the region. He noted that Sector 4, established in August 2025, was designed to bridge security gaps between Southern Borno and Northern Adamawa, covering 10 local government areas across approximately 16,000 square kilometres.
He explained that the vast and complex terrain necessitates a multi-layered security approach combining troop deployment, technology-driven solutions, and community engagement.
The Theatre Commander disclosed that Defence and Army Headquarters have intensified efforts through the deployment of special forces, provision of combat enablers, and the training of local security groups as first responders in remote communities. He added that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved additional military formations to strengthen operations in the state.
Abubakar stressed the need for improved surveillance and intelligence systems to address modern security challenges and enhance rapid response capabilities.
Addressing troops and local security groups in Mubi and Tella Balla in Gombi Local Government Area, the Theatre Commander urged heightened vigilance, warning that ongoing offensives in other sectors could push insurgents into new areas.
He called for stronger intelligence gathering, protection of vulnerable communities, and identification of collaborators aiding terrorist elements.
The visit featured inspection of the Quarter Guard, operational briefings, interactive sessions with troops, and engagements with community-based security actors.

The Theatre Commander was accompanied by the Commander, Sector 4 OPHK, Brigadier General Amaechi Agwu, alongside other senior officers and field commanders.
The assessment forms part of broader efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to consolidate gains in the fight against insurgency and ensure lasting peace and stability across the North-East.
