The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a newly elected State Working Committee (SWC) in Ebonyi State, with Hon. Chukwuma Igwe emerging as State Chairman and Hon. Henry Ngonu as State Secretary.

Igwe, a former member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, will lead the new executive tasked with repositioning the party in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration followed the party’s state congress held on Friday at the PDP Secretariat along Km 8 Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway in Abakaliki. The congress recorded a large turnout of party members and stakeholders.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise, while security operatives maintained order, ensuring the congress was conducted peacefully without incident.

Speaking during the exercise, Chairman of the seven-man Congress Committee, Barr. Ukpai Ukairo, said the party adopted a consensus arrangement in electing the new leadership to minimise internal disagreements.

Ukairo commended members of the party in the state for their orderly conduct and urged the new executives to brace up for the task of rebuilding the party.

“There is serious work ahead as the PDP is determined to bounce back to winning ways, especially as the 2027 general elections approach,” he said.

In his remarks at the inauguration, the Southeast National Vice Chairman of the party, Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, congratulated the new leadership and urged them to work closely with party leaders and stakeholders to strengthen unity within the party.

Egwu also charged the new executives to hit the ground running by mobilising members to participate actively in the e-registration of party members in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2025.
