CAPE TOWN, Feb. 9, 2026 — The South Africa Coordinator of the South East Progressive Ambassadors (SEPA), Mr Henry Oyekumnaru, has commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as consistent and courageous efforts in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
Oyekumnaru gave the commendation at a SEPA caucus meeting held on Sunday in Cape Town.
He said the President’s approach to insecurity demonstrated strong political will and a clear understanding of the link between security, economic stability and investor confidence.
According to him, Tinubu’s recent acknowledgement that terrorism is giving Nigerians sleepless nights reflects sincerity and commitment to confronting the country’s security challenges.
He noted that while speaking at the opening of the Second National Economic Council (NEC) Conference in Abuja, the President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen security forces through improved mechanisation, enhanced coordination and increased resources.
“President Tinubu has refused to shy away from confronting insecurity head-on. He understands that peace and security are fundamental to economic prosperity and investor confidence,” Oyekumnaru said.
He added that security reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda were designed to create an enabling environment for infrastructure development, industrial growth and job creation.
The SEPA coordinator explained that improved security would enable farmers to return to their communities, restore supply chains and enhance food security, thereby reducing inflationary pressures.
He also said a secure environment would encourage local manufacturing, strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises and attract domestic and foreign investments.
Oyekumnaru, however, emphasised that the fight against insecurity should go beyond military operations.
He said addressing socio-economic factors such as unemployment, youth restiveness, poverty and inequality was essential to achieving lasting peace.
“When young people are empowered with education, skills and opportunities, the tendency toward unrest reduces significantly,” he said.
Oyekumnaru reaffirmed SEPA’s commitment to supporting progressive governance anchored on accountability, inclusiveness and people-oriented policies.
He said diaspora advocacy remained important in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting positive narratives about Nigeria globally.
The meeting also passed a vote of appreciation to the founding members of SEPA Worldwide for their contributions to the organisation’s growth and stability.
Oyekumnaru particularly commended Owelle Onyeka Mbaso, Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President, for his leadership and coordination efforts.

He said SEPA Worldwide would continue to advocate policies that promote security, unity and inclusive development for Nigerians and Africans at large.
He commended Hon John Ikeotuonye, Dr Justin Nwankwo, Owelle Onyeka Mbaso and other Founding members of SEPA.
