Rev. Fr. Chimaobi Okoye has urged Christians to celebrate Christmas with moderation and sober reflection, stressing that the season signifies the birth of Jesus Christ and should not be turned into a period of undue pressure or material display.
Okoye made the call during his Christmas sermon at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Archbishop Obiefuna Retreat Centre, Okpuno, Anambra State.
He cautioned against placing unnecessary financial and social pressure on individuals in the name of celebration, warning that doing so contradicts the true meaning of the season.
According to him, Christmas is not about showcasing wealth, personal achievements or competing for attention, but about understanding the spiritual significance of Christ’s birth.

“The essence of Christmas goes beyond wearing new clothes or organising lavish celebrations,” he said. “It calls for deep reflection on the significance of Christ’s birth.”
He urged Christians to emulate the teachings of Jesus Christ by making positive contributions to society through acts of love, sacrifice and service to humanity.
