Barau Pays Ex–Kano Municipal Chairman’s Withheld N7m Entitlements, Condemns Political Victimisation
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has personally paid the N7 million entitlement of the former Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Fa’izu Alfindiki, reportedly withheld by the Kano State Government.
A statement by Senator Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, said the Deputy Senate President presented the cheque to Alfindiki on Tuesday evening at the National Assembly, Abuja.
Speaking during the presentation, Senator Barau described the withholding of the former council boss’s entitlements as unjust, politically motivated and an affront to democratic principles.
“It is unfortunate that he has been denied his legitimate entitlements simply because he stood firmly with the APC and the people of our state. This is wrong, unjust and a clear breach of freedom of speech and association,” Barau said.
He emphasised the importance of dissenting voices in governance, noting that constructive criticism strengthens democracy.
“Constructive criticism, like that of Fa’izu Alfindiki, is the lubricant of democracy. Without it, this system of government will not flourish,” he added.
In his response, Alfindiki expressed gratitude to the Deputy Senate President, expressing confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and reaffirming his loyalty to the party.
“I want to sincerely thank His Excellency, the Deputy President of the Senate and our incoming Governor, In sha Allah, for this great opportunity and honour. This singular act once again proves that the APC is a party to stand with and a platform worthy of our dedication and sacrifice,” he said.
He praised Senator Barau for what he described as exemplary leadership and support for party members, saying the gesture had restored hope and reaffirmed his faith in the APC.
The development has sparked reactions, with political observers noting it underscores the growing tension between the ruling party in Kano State and opposition figures.
