The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, was on Saturday honoured with the “Excellence in Media Leadership and Advocacy Award” by the School of Communications and Media Studies, Learn To Live Business School UK (LLBSUK).
The honour was a major highlight of the institution’s 2025 Post-Graduate Programme Awards Ceremony, which celebrated graduands from Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 in an atmosphere filled with pride, academic accomplishment, and professional camaraderie.
Media scholars, practitioners, academics and families of the graduating students attended the colourful event. Among the graduands were Mrs. Funmilayo Evelyn Akintola, Gloria Ikiba, Arith, Yecenu Joyce Sasetu and several others who completed the institution’s intensive communication and media leadership programme.
Presenting the honour, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Chairman of AFIA Television, Chief Emeka Mba, described Comrade Ike as a trailblazer whose leadership continues to shape national conversations.
He noted that her unwavering advocacy, mentorship and defence of press freedom have made her a respected voice and reference point within Nigeria’s media space.
“This award recognizes Comrade Grace Ike as an outstanding individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in advancing the values of ethical journalism, free expression and responsible media practice,” Mba said.
In her response, Comrade Ike expressed profound gratitude, describing the award as both humbling and motivating. She said the recognition reinforces her commitment to strengthening journalism and contributing to national development.
“I am delighted by this recognition from the School of Communications and Media Studies,” she said. “Strategic communication remains central to every sphere of human endeavour and to our national development. We must continue to refine how we tell our stories and how we engage the public.”
Reaffirming her dedication to responsible journalism, she pledged to continue championing narratives that rebuild public trust in the media.
“I will do my best to inspire my people to tell stories that will shape public trust,” she noted, emphasizing that the media must remain a credible bridge between government, institutions and citizens.
For Comrade Grace Ike, the honour marks yet another milestone in a distinguished career defined by advocacy, ethical leadership and service to the journalism profession.

For the graduands, the ceremony signalled the start of a new chapter as many expressed enthusiasm about deploying newly acquired skills in communication strategy, media ethics and development reporting—competences LLBSUK hopes will strengthen the media industry.
The event ends with the presentation of certificates and awards, group photographs, and networking sessions among academics, practitioners and guests.
