The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country following rising security threats in several states, a move aimed at preventing possible attacks on students and staff.
On Friday, in a statement, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, conveyed the approved directive to principals of the affected colleges.
According to the Ministry, the measure became necessary in light of “recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.” The memo instructed school heads to shut down operations without delay and ensure full compliance with the order as precautionary steps are taken to safeguard the lives of students and education personnel.
The affected institutions cut across multiple geopolitical zones, particularly those in states experiencing heightened insecurity. The list includes:
