The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who passed away on Tuesday in Lagos.
Senator Ezea, born on August 11, 1963, was a lawyer, businessman and politician elected on the Labour Party platform to represent Enugu North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate following the 2023 general elections.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the late lawmaker as a pan-Nigerian politician renowned for his commitment to national unity and development.
Until his demise, Senator Ezea served as the Vice Chairman of both the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, and the Senate Committee on Culture and Creative Economy, where he played key roles in strengthening national cohesion and advancing legislative work.
Senator Barau said the news of his passing was shocking, noting that the late Enugu North representative would be remembered for his dedication to the Nigerian project through his contributions within and outside the Senate.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of my friend — his wife, Madam Chioma, his children, the entire people of Enugu North Senatorial District and Enugu State in general,” he said. “May God grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss. Senator Okey Ezea was a patriotic Nigerian par excellence, who worked hard to enhance the standard of living of the people of Enugu North Senatorial District and beyond.”
