The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died in London on Sunday at the age of 82.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the late former President as a tireless promoter of national peace and unity.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. I mourn the passing of the former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died today (Sunday) in London,” the Deputy Senate President stated.
He noted that the late General Buhari, who served Nigeria both as a military ruler (1983–1985) and as a democratically elected President (2015–2023), was a leader driven by a clear vision for Nigeria’s unity, stability, and growth.
“President Buhari was not just a towering figure in our nation’s history, but a man whose life embodied discipline, resilience, and patriotism. Throughout his lifetime, he remained committed to Nigeria’s unity, security, and development,” Barau said.

He added that Buhari’s service in both military and civilian capacities would be remembered for its lasting impact on the country’s governance and national identity.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Her Excellency Aisha Buhari, his children, and the entire Buhari family. May Allah (SWT) grant them the strength to bear this great loss. Amin,” he prayed.
