The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Institute of Quality Assurance of Nigeria (IQAN) have agreed to collaborate on enhancing quality standards in Nigeria’s emergency management sector.
NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to strengthening service delivery across all phases of emergency management during a courtesy visit by an IQAN delegation to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja. Represented by the Director of Human Resource Management, Dr. Emenike Umesi, Mrs. Umar emphasized NEMA’s dedication to institutionalizing best practices through strategic partnerships.
She noted that embedding quality assurance into NEMA’s operations would support its disaster risk reduction goals and improve overall efficiency. The Agency, she said, is open to collaboration with IQAN in areas such as capacity building, training, and organizational development.
Leading the delegation, IQAN Registrar Professor Victor Akpan said the visit was aimed at fostering strategic cooperation to integrate quality assurance into emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.

Professor Akpan underscored the importance of quality standards in boosting operational effectiveness, professionalism, and public trust. He emphasized that applying these standards throughout the disaster management cycle is vital for achieving impactful and accountable outcomes.
He also gave an overview of IQAN’s mandate since its establishment in 2004, highlighting its cross-sectoral approach and alignment with Nigeria’s national emergency management objectives.
