In response to the recent violent attack on Yelwata community in Benue State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has dispatched critical relief materials to assist displaced residents and victims.
The intervention followed a rapid joint needs assessment conducted by NEMA, the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and security operatives. The assessment provided immediate insight into the humanitarian needs on the ground.
NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, promptly activated the agency’s North Central Zonal Office to coordinate the distribution of relief items under the supervision of Zonal Director Mr. Aliyu Waziri. She further directed that a comprehensive assessment of affected persons and damaged infrastructure be carried out to determine any additional support needed.
The deployed relief materials include food and non-food items such as bags of parboiled rice, maize, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodized salt, and mattresses.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to alleviate the suffering of affected individuals and support the restoration of normalcy in the community.
