…House bids farewell to outgoing Bulgarian Ambassador
The House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria-Bulgaria Relations has described trade and diplomatic ties between the two countries as cordial and longstanding.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Munachim Ikechi Alozie, made the remarks during a farewell ceremony held at the National Assembly Complex in honor of the outgoing Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yanko Yordanov.
According to Hon. Alozie, Nigeria has a rich history of progressive and friendly relations with Bulgaria, spanning various sectors including trade, education, agriculture, energy, and technology.
“We have not just come to bid him farewell, but to celebrate a friend who, through his intentional engagement, interaction, and cultural embrace, has become one of us — a Nigerian at heart who enjoys our meals and values our traditions,” Alozie said.
He added that Nigeria remains committed to fostering sustainable partnerships that are measurable, respectful, and mutually beneficial.
“Our aspiration is to become a beacon and a point of reference in initiating and promoting partnerships that support development across key sectors. As part of our efforts, we will soon conduct trade missions between Nigeria and Bulgaria. I invite everyone to participate in the upcoming Investment, Tourism, and Trade Mission to Bulgaria from July 14 to 20, 2025,” he announced.
Alozie commended Ambassador Yordanov for his commitment to deepening Nigeria-Bulgaria relations, noting that significant progress was recorded during his tenure.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yordanov expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government and people, acknowledging the strong support he received throughout his posting.
“It has been a great privilege to serve my country through my role in Nigeria. This nation is not only the giant of Africa but also a giant in global potential and positive influence,” he said.
Speaking with journalists after the event, Ambassador Yordanov emphasized the mutually beneficial nature of Nigeria-Bulgaria relations, citing cooperation in agriculture, business, transportation, infrastructure, and high-tech innovation as key areas of progress.
“We are proud of the achievements recorded so far and look forward to expanding our collaboration, especially in IT and emerging technologies. Bulgaria is a hospitable nation, and I believe our two countries can continue to grow closer,” he stated.

Also speaking at the event, representatives of the African Coordinator and Director of Parliament for the Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific Joint Session African Union Commission Simulation highlighted the ambassador’s collaborative work in various diplomatic and regional initiatives.
The event concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque by Hon. Alozie to Ambassador Yordanov in appreciation of his contributions to strengthening Nigeria-Bulgaria relations.
