The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday established a nine-member ad-hoc committee to investigate the alleged illegal annexation of Nigerian territory by Cameroon.
The motion further emphasized that the annexation violates multiple international agreements. Lawmakers called for a review of the ICJ judgment and urged the Nigerian government to escalate the matter to the United Nations Convention.
Senators from Cross River, Adamawa, and Ogun states also raised concerns about similar territorial disputes affecting their respective states.
Several lawmakers criticized the implementation of the ICJ ruling, describing it as one-sided and advocating for a comprehensive review.

Following deliberations, the Senate resolved thereby set up an ad-hoc committee, chaired by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.
The Senate also urge President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters, including securing the 2,560 oil wells located within the disputed mangrove islands in Akwa Ibom State.
