A digital marketplace, 2Clicks Nigeria, has recorded over 100,000 downloads and more than 100,000 active listings within two months of its public launch, signalling rapid growth in Nigeria’s e-commerce space.
The Country Manager of 2Clicks Nigeria, Mr. Bakare Olaoluwa, disclosed this at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, noting that the application also entered the top 10 shopping category on Google Play within three weeks of launch, an indication of strong early adoption.
Olaoluwa said the platform was developed to strengthen digital commerce by providing accessible and affordable online marketing tools for entrepreneurs, particularly Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs).
He explained that the initiative aims to help small businesses reach wider markets without incurring significant digital advertising costs, stressing that the platform removes common barriers by allowing unlimited product listings without compulsory charges.
“The digital marketplace will reduce online selling costs and expand market access for millions of Nigerian entrepreneurs through free product listings,” he said.
According to him, Nigeria’s largely self-employed workforce requires affordable digital tools to scale beyond their immediate environments and connect with more buyers nationwide.
He added that while the platform offers optional premium subscriptions to boost product visibility, all users would continue to enjoy free access to its core features.
To enhance trust and safety, Olaoluwa said all sellers undergo identity verification using either the National Identification Number (NIN) or Bank Verification Number (BVN) before being approved on the platform.
He noted that sellers who complete additional verification processes receive free badges, while buyers can report suspicious listings and access structured customer support for dispute resolution.
The country manager further highlighted that integrated WhatsApp messaging enables direct communication between buyers and sellers, while high-definition images and video listings improve product visibility and boost consumer confidence.
He added that sellers also benefit from free performance analytics, location-based search features, and property mapping tools to support better marketing decisions and customer engagement.
Olaoluwa, however, criticised some existing online marketplaces for imposing compulsory subscription fees and restricting free listings, arguing that such practices limit participation, especially for small-scale traders.
He maintained that reducing operational costs for sellers would drive broader inclusion in Nigeria’s digital economy and unlock more opportunities for MSMEs.
According to him, 2Clicks will sustain its operations through optional premium promotional services while keeping its core marketplace features free for all users.

Olaoluwa expressed optimism that increased competition among digital marketplace platforms would enhance innovation, expand consumer choice, and strengthen trust in Nigeria’s rapidly growing e-commerce ecosystem.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that MSMEs remain the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, accounting for over 90 per cent of businesses, contributing between 46 and 48 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and providing about 84 to 88 per cent of total employment.
