The Senate Committee on Navy has approved the 2025 budget proposal of the Nigerian Navy and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his exceptional support to the nation’s defense agencies.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Gbenga Daniel on Monday in Abuja, who represents Ogun East Senatorial District, praised the president’s unwavering commitment to bolstering the nation’s security and applauded the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, for his efforts in combating oil theft.
Speaking on the Navy’s budget performance, Senator Daniel expressed satisfaction with their achievements in the outgoing fiscal year and highlighted their projections for 2025.
“We evaluated what they have done in the outgoing budget year and what they presented by way of budget for 2025. The first thing we have to do is thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the extraordinary support he is giving to our defense agencies.
“We also told the Naval High Command that we are impressed with some of their activities, but we have charged them that until we achieve zero oil theft in our waters, nobody is going to rest. In return, they have pledged to give a good account of themselves.”
Senator Daniel further emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in eradicating oil theft, which remains a critical issue for the nation’s economic stability.
“They will cooperate with other agencies because, once we are able to tackle the oil theft going on in our waters, by the grace of God, the sky is our limit as a country.”

The committee expressed confidence in the Navy’s ability to deliver on its mandate and reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s security and economic development.
