The solemn passing of Late Francis Akpo on April 2024 marks a significant loss.
His one-week funeral rites, commencing on April 22nd and culminating in a heartfelt Thanksgiving Service at St. Charles Parish, Obudu, Cross River State, mirrored the profound impact he had on all who knew him. His final resting place was at the family residence on Anderson Street, Obudu.
Late Chief Francis Akpo was not just a patriarch, but a revered figure in society.
He held the esteemed title of father-in-law to the distinguished Digital Governor, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade, the former Executive Governor of Cross River State. His legacy extended to his daughter, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Linda Ugianugwuye Ayade, the former First Lady, and his son, Dr. Eric Akpo, an accomplished Architect and Knight of Saint Mulumba. Among his other children were Kizito, Albert, and Bertrand, along with daughters Catherine Uyilebima and Barrister Agatha Christie.
His departure left a void in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren, as well as in the esteemed circle of in-laws, which included figures like Ayade, Martins Atuo Adie, Prof. John O. Inyang, and Barrister Odey Adamade of NNPC, among others.
A man of unimpeachable character and a beacon of integrity, Late Chief Francis Akpo’s legacy of humility and exceptional achievements resonates deeply. The officiating parish priest attested to his unwavering integrity, a sentiment echoed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The distinguished attendees at his funeral, including the incumbent State Governor, Senator Prince Edet Bassey Otu, and Senator Ekpenyong of Cross River Southern District, paid their respects, underscoring his enduring impact in Obudu and beyond.
As we bid farewell to this exemplary man, we find solace in the belief that he now resides in eternal peace. May his gentle soul rest in tranquility. Amen.
