THE Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asserted in Abuja on Wednesday that the party’s identity extends far beyond its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking to journalists after a two-hour closed-door meeting, Senate Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South) emphasized the importance of focusing on the party’s structure and preparing for future electoral challenges.
“The PDP is not just about Damagun or Wike; it is about its members and their collective resolve. We are working tirelessly to ensure the party returns to its winning ways,” Moro stated.
Reflecting on the party’s recent setbacks in gubernatorial elections, Moro acknowledged the challenges but expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to recover and rebuild.

“We discussed the life of our party, particularly in light of recent electoral losses. While losing is painful, every failure provides lessons for future success. Our efforts are now directed at ensuring the PDP avoids such setbacks, especially in states like Osun, where we currently hold government,” he said.
Moro also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its handling of elections, calling for urgent reforms to restore credibility to the electoral process.
Addressing concerns about Wike’s perceived alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the caucus downplayed its significance, describing it as a temporary distraction. Moro likened Wike’s actions to political dynamics in the United States, where members of opposing parties occasionally endorse candidates across party lines.
“Wike’s actions are not unusual. What matters is the collective resolve of the PDP to stand firm against any forces undermining its stability,” Moro explained.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to reclaiming lost mandates, particularly in states like Edo, where he alleged the PDP’s mandate was “stolen.”
Despite the challenges, Moro expressed confidence in the PDP’s resilience, describing it as a “brand” with a legacy of overcoming obstacles. “The PDP has always risen above difficulties, and this time will be no diff
erent,” he concluded.
