We Doubles Revenue in One Year — FG’s Paperless Drive Accelerates, Unveils 1Gov Platform in Nigeria

We came in when revenue was about ₦6 billion; we doubled it within a year and are now almost tripling it, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, made this assertion recently as the Federal Government’s calls for a paperless public service gathered momentum with the launch of the 1Gov digital platform in Abuja.

The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development formally unveiled a digital Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) hosted on the Federal Government’s OneGov (1Gov) Cloud, a move aimed at strengthening transparency, improving ease of doing business and tightening oversight across Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

Speaking at the launch, an initiative of the Mining Cadastral Office (MCO), Alake described the platform as a critical reform tool that is already reshaping governance and revenue performance in the sector. He said digitization and strict policy enforcement had driven a dramatic rise in earnings, with sector-wide revenue growing from ₦28 billion in 2024 to over ₦50 billion in 2025.

According to the minister, the reforms introduced since he assumed office about two and a half years ago were deliberately designed to dismantle opaque processes that discouraged investors and undermined government revenue. “Digitisation has brought transparency, and transparency has brought trust and growth,” he said.

The Director-General of the MCO, Mr. Obadiah Nkom, said the adoption of the 1Gov ECMS would significantly enhance document security, protect government data and guarantee sustainable online operations. He explained that the agency’s transition to digital processes three years ago made it imperative to operate within a secure sovereign cloud environment.

Nkom noted that full digitisation had translated into measurable financial gains, with MCO revenue rising from ₦6.17 billion in 2023 to ₦12 billion in 2024, and already exceeding ₦30 billion in 2025.

He added that the agency’s digital reforms had earned national recognition, including the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) Award for Best Digital and Innovation Agency.

On the technical framework, the Managing Director of Galaxy BackBone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the 1Gov ECMS as more than an automation tool. He said the platform is a secure, sovereign and intelligent solution designed to streamline records management, improve workload visibility and enhance service delivery to investors and stakeholders.

Adeyanju assured that Galaxy BackBone would provide continuous technical support to ensure full adoption and effective use of the platform across the ministry and its agencies.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo, attributed the pace of digital transformation to strong ministerial backing and policy direction. “I can say proudly that the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development today is leading in all respects in the digital transformation of governance,” he said.

The launch comes as the Federal Government enforces its directive for all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to become fully paperless by December 31, 2025, as part of wider civil service reforms to accelerate digital governance.

However, the live demonstration of the 1Gov Cloud system by an MCO staff member, showcasing its real-time document management and security features.
