President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to end the nation’s lingering security challenges, declaring that the crisis which began in 2009 must not be allowed to continue.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony of the Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, on Thursday,Abuja, President Tinubu said the event symbolized a renewed national effort to guarantee peace and stability across Nigeria. He stressed that their appointments and Senate confirmations carried immense responsibility that demanded patriotism, innovation, and decisive leadership.
“Today’s ceremony is beyond the symbolism of decoration. It marks the beginning of our renewed effort to ensure the peace and security of all Nigerians,” the President said. “We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer.”
Tinubu commended the armed forces for their courage and sacrifices, noting that their efforts had reclaimed territories once occupied by terrorists and restored peace to several communities. He, however, warned that new security threats were emerging in parts of the North-Central, North-West, and South, requiring immediate and decisive action.
“Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating,” he said. “Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups. We must not allow these threats to fester. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.”
The President urged the Service Chiefs to adopt proactive and technology-driven approaches to modern warfare, pledging his administration’s full support to enable them succeed.
“Nigerians expect results, not excuses,” Tinubu stated. “Be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done.”

The newly decorated Service Chiefs pledged their commitment to restoring peace and upholding the nation’s territorial integrity.
The 2009 crisis, which marked the rise of the Boko Haram insurgency, has since evolved into multiple security challenges across different regions, including terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. President Tinubu’s latest charge signals a firm resolve by his administration to bring an end to over a decade of conflict and insecurity.
