As I walk through the bustling streets of Lagos, I’m reminded of the countless young Nigerians who are desperate to make a name for themselves. Many of them believe that the key to success lies in landing a job at one of the country’s top organizations – NNPC, CBN, or FIRS. But I’m here to tell you that this is a myth.
As the Project Coordinator of the Nigeria Talent Exploration Challenge, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most talented and innovative young minds in the country. And let me tell you, they’re not waiting for a job at NNPC, CBN, or FIRS to unleash their potential.
Take, for instance, the story of 25-year-old Emmanuel, a brilliant tech enthusiast from Abuja. Despite having no connection to the “big three,” Emmanuel has built a thriving tech company that’s providing solutions to some of Nigeria’s most pressing problems. His secret? Identifying a need in the market and using his talents to create something truly innovative.
Or consider the case of 28-year-old Amara, a talented fashion designer from Lagos. Without any connections to the “big three,” Amara has built a successful fashion brand that’s showcasing Nigerian talent to the world. Her secret? Hard work, determination, and a willingness to take risks.
These stories, and many more like them, are a wake-up call to young Nigerians. You don’t need to work for NNPC, CBN, or FIRS to be successful. What you need is to identify your talents, be innovative, and be willing to take risks.
So, I urge you to think outside the box. Don’t wait for a job at one of the “big three” to start building your dreams. Start now. Identify your passions, develop your skills, and unleash your creativity.
