Two men have been confirmed dead after a container fell from a trailer onto a tricycle along the Owerri–Onitsha Road in Anambra State on Thursday morning.
The Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs. Bridget Asekhauno, who confirmed the incident in Awka, said the crash occurred at about 8:20 a.m. and was caused by a failed portion of the road.
According to Asekhauno, the fatal crash involved two unidentified drivers — one operating a red tricycle without a registration number and the other a trailer also without a registration number.
“Eyewitnesses reported that the crash resulted from a bad section of the road, which caused the trailer’s container to tip over and crush the tricycle,” she said.
The FRSC Commander explained that four male occupants were involved in the accident, two of whom died at the scene.

“The FRSC tow truck was used to lift the trailer off the tricycle to clear the obstruction. In collaboration with the police, our team evacuated the victims, who were unfortunately confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital,” Asekhauno stated.
She added that normal traffic flow had been restored at the scene and urged motorists to drive cautiously, especially on bad roads, to avoid similar tragedies.
