The Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., Co-Chair of the Technical Working Group’s Report within the National Economic Council (NEC) AD-HOC Committee on Flood, Erosion, Drought, and Desertification, has announced the completion of the committee’s proceedings.
This was made today in Abuja by the Honourable Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, following a series of extensive meetings held by the Committee.
Goronyo disclosed that the committee has concluded its recommendations and suggestions in a report that is distinguished for its thoroughness, encompassing not only flood management but also addressing drought,
desertification, and erosion control.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria will be able to surmount challenges in flood management, drought, and desertification through the implementation of the report’s recommendations. Stressing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prioritization of the welfare of Nigerians, he urged unwavering commitment to fulfilling the mandate, leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of national objectives.
Goronyo emphasized that the recommendations will involve stakeholders from various levels of government, agencies, communities, market participants, and individuals, underscoring the importance of collective effort from all stakeholders to effectively address this significant national duty.
Moreover, he reminded the Committee of the recently published National flood outlook and urged all stakeholders to be prepared to tackle the challenges in order to mitigate the anticipated outlook.
He acknowledged the successful completion of the Committee’s assignment and expressed confidence that the report will be utilized effectively for informed decision-making by policymakers. He highlighted that the Report will now be submitted to the main Committee for further action and subsequent transmission to the National Economic Council for review.
He conveyed his sincere appreciation to the office of the Vice President, Executive Governor of Kogi State, DG NEMA, NIMET, NISHA, and other Distinguished Stakeholders who participated in the Committee for their assistance, and also praised the invaluable suggestions, robust discussions, constructive arguments, and active participation of the Committee Members which have collectively shaped a comprehensive roadmap and a resilient report.
He praised their collaboration and cooperative spirit, emphasizing their shared dedication to the well-being of all Nigerians.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in the Committee to undertake this important National assignment.
The highlight of the meeting was the unanimous adoption of the Report, indicating its readiness for submission to the National Flood Committee and subsequent transmission to the National Economic Council.
