Troops Foil Imminent Terror Attack, Arrest Suspected Suicide Bomber, Seize IED Materials in Borno

The Joint Task Force North East (JTF NE), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has recorded a major breakthrough in its counter-terrorism operations with the arrest of a suspected suicide bomber and the seizure of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials in Borno State.

The successful operation followed sustained intelligence-driven surveillance and coordinated security efforts targeted at safeguarding Banki town in Bama Local Government Area.

According to military sources, troops of 152 Task Force Battalion, working in collaboration with other security agencies, apprehended the suspect identified as Abubakar Mustapha at about 1740 hours on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Banki Central Mosque. He was reportedly found with primed IED components, indicating plans to carry out an attack.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, a native of Bama Local Government Area, was also in possession of other incriminating items linked to terrorist activities. He is currently undergoing interrogation to uncover his sponsors, collaborators, and possible links to terror networks operating in the region.

In a related operation, troops stationed at the Cameroon–Nigeria border intercepted a Peugeot vehicle transporting six bags of urea fertiliser, a key material commonly used in manufacturing IEDs. Swift follow-up operations led to the arrest of a suspected fertiliser dealer and recovery of an additional six bags, bringing the total seized quantity to twelve.

All suspects and recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation and prosecution.
