President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Monday, January 26, depart Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, with a strong focus on deepening security collaboration and expanding economic and strategic partnerships between both countries.
The visit is expected to advance Nigeria–Türkiye relations through high-level political and diplomatic engagements aimed at shared priorities in security, trade, investment, finance, communication and innovation. It also builds on the long-standing bilateral ties between both nations, following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit to Nigeria in October 2021.
According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, discussions during the visit will centre on strengthening cooperation in critical sectors including defence, education, aviation, social development and technology.
A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration and diplomatic protocol, underscoring both countries’ commitment to structured and long-term engagement.
The visit will also feature a Nigeria–Türkiye business forum designed to connect investors from both countries and unlock new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, energy and industrial development.
Members of President Tinubu’s delegation participating in the bilateral discussions include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Others are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit.
