President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military hierarchy as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s national security architecture.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), replacing General Christopher Musa.
Other key appointments include:
Chief of Army Staff: Major-General W. Shaibu
Chief of Air Staff: Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke
Chief of Naval Staff: Rear Admiral I. Abbas
Chief of Defence Intelligence: Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye (retains his position)
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing CDS, General Musa, and the previous Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” to the nation.

He also charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to “justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
According to the statement, all appointments take immediate effect.
