President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged Nigeria’s continued leadership in driving Africa’s sustainable transformation through bold climate action and strategic infrastructure investments.
Speaking at the opening of the Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change Summit (AICIS) 2025 in Abuja—represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume—the President described Africa as “standing at a defining crossroads,” blessed with resources but burdened by climate change, infrastructure gaps, and economic uncertainty.
“Climate change is a profound economic and security challenge. Our farmers face unpredictable seasons, coastal cities battle rising sea levels, and industries must adapt to shifting patterns,” he said. Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitments under the Paris Agreement, highlighting investments in renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, and clean technologies.
He stressed that infrastructure remains the “backbone of any thriving economy,” citing initiatives such as the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund and the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan as central to Nigeria’s growth agenda.
Stakeholders Commit to Green Growth
Goodwill messages from key stakeholders reinforced the summit’s agenda:
NMDPRA’s Farouk Ahmed (represented by Engr. Mohammed Hashim) outlined cleaner energy infrastructure projects, gas sector expansion, and transparent regulation.
NIRSAL’s Abdulhameed Aliyu stressed climate-resilient agriculture, innovative insurance, and rural livelihood protection.
NASRDA’s Dr. Matthew Adepoju (represented by Dr. Olajide Aderoju) emphasized satellite technology for climate monitoring and environmental management.
Africa Aviation and Aerospace University’s Dr. Eniola Olaniyan Ajani highlighted research-driven adaptation strategies.
House Climate Change Committee Chairman Hon. Sam Onuigbo reaffirmed legislative backing for the Climate Change Act 2021.
NNPC Foundation’s Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe called for innovative financing for sustainable transport and low-carbon transition.

A major highlight was the unveiling of the 2026 Africa Infrastructure and Climate Change Summit, set for November 27–30, 2026, aimed at building on current commitments and partnerships.

Organized in collaboration with the Office of the SGF and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AICIS 2025 runs from August 11–12, bringing together African leaders, policymakers, development partners, and industry experts to mobilize investments for climate-resilient infrastructure and green economic growth.
The event drew diplomats, senior government officials, and media representatives, ending with a call for “bold, practical solutions” that can be implemented at scale to secure Africa’s future.
