President Bola Tinubu has declared an all-out war on skyrocketing food prices, issuing a matching order to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to act swiftly and decisively in reversing the trend.
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday, revealing that Tinubu has directed a special FEC committee to guarantee the safe movement of farm produce across the country’s highways. The move targets the high logistics costs that have been fueling inflation and deepening hunger nationwide.
“Mr President has given a matching order, and the committee is already working on how to guarantee safe movement of agricultural produce nationwide,” Abdullahi said at a capacity-building workshop for Senate correspondents.
For millions of Nigerians struggling with unaffordable food, the directive signals hope. Food insecurity has worsened in recent months, driven by the removal of fuel subsidy, soaring transport costs, and insecurity along major supply routes.
But Tinubu’s approach, Abdullahi explained, goes beyond immediate relief. The President is pushing towards food sovereignty — ensuring long-term availability, affordability, accessibility, and improved nutrition for Nigerians.
To achieve this, the Federal Government is rolling out a Farmer Soil Health Scheme to restore land productivity, alongside a revamped cooperative reform programme to mobilise resources and empower rural farmers.

“Mr President has shown tremendous interest in the cooperative sector as a veritable tool for mobilising resources, generating economic activity, and improving livelihoods,” Abdullahi added.
With the taskforce in motion and new programmes on the horizon, the Tinubu administration has sent a clear message: food prices must come down — and soon.
