President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) reconciliation committee in Bauchi State, with a mandate to resolve the party’s prolonged internal crisis within one month.
A statement from the Speaker’s office on Sunday said the committee’s task is to restore unity ahead of the APC congresses. Members include Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni; former House Speaker Yakubu Dogara; Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate); Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Political); Usman Abubakar Gotomo; and Jake Dan-Azumi, the Speaker’s Chief of Staff, who will serve as secretary.
The Abbas-led panel held its inaugural meeting in Abuja in late July, mapping out strategies for peace-building. Speaking after the meeting, Abbas said the crisis — which dates back to the party’s 2015 primaries — required presidential intervention, stressing that members were chosen for their integrity and problem-solving capacity.

On July 31, the committee met Bauchi APC stakeholders at the Yobe Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, with Governor Buni chairing in Abbas’s absence. Attendees included former Bauchi governors Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and Isa Yuguda; former senators Surat Dada and Salisu Matori; Minister of Health Mohammed Ali Pate; and other prominent party figures.
The committee resolved to embark on a fact-finding mission to engage stakeholders directly in Bauchi. Its final report is expected to be submitted to President Tinubu in the coming weeks for further action.
