President Bola Tinubu has appointed new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been selected as the new Director-General of the NIA.
Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the DSS.
In a statement released on Monday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity, the presidency confirmed the appointments.
Ambassador Mohammed has had a distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995. He has held various positions, ultimately reaching the rank of Director and subsequently being appointed as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, he has served in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House, Abuja.
The new Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Adeola Ajayi, has progressed through the ranks to his current position as Assistant Director-General of the Service.
“He has previously served as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.”
These appointments come after the resignation of the previous heads of the NIA and DSS.
President Tinubu expects the new security chiefs to diligently reposition the two intelligence agencies for improved outcomes.
He has tasked them with leveraging their expertise to address the security challenges facing the country through enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and strategic alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The President expressed gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General of the two crucial intelligence agencies for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
