Senate President Godswill Akpabio has criticized opponents of the four tax reform bills presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly, accusing them of failing to fully grasp the essence of the proposed changes.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2025 national budget to a joint session of the National Assembly, Akpabio urged Nigerians, especially those in public office, to approach the reforms with an open and informed perspective.
The four tax reform bills—Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024; and Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024—signal a significant shift in Nigeria’s fiscal framework.
Akpabio lauded President Tinubu’s bold initiative, describing it as the first comprehensive tax reform effort since Nigeria’s independence. He emphasized that the reforms aim to enhance the country’s revenue generation, foster a more business-friendly environment, and promote sustainable development.
