Health Minister Inaugurates Committee Assigning task to National Health Facility Regulatory Agency to fortify Nigeria’s Healthcare System

The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has officially launched a committee with the mandate of establishing the National Health Facility Regulatory Agency (NHFRA), aligning with the Federal Government’s initiatives to fortify Nigeria’s Healthcare System.
In a recent event held in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister emphasized that the formation of this agency is pivotal in ensuring that every individual has access to the highest quality of healthcare.
Drawing inspiration from global exemplars, such as the United Kingdom’s Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Joint Commission in the United States, which have set the gold standard for healthcare regulation, the Minister highlighted the importance of effective regulation in fostering a healthcare system that is safe, efficient, and equitable.
The committee, composed of esteemed members including medical professionals and healthcare experts, has been assigned a multifaceted mandate encompassing various critical thematic areas such as Governance Model and Structure, Legislative Framework, Operational Guidelines, Stakeholder Engagement, Resource Mobilization, and Implementation Planning.
The Minister urged the committee members to leave a lasting impact on the nation’s healthcare system, emphasizing that the establishment of NHFRA will be a cornerstone in the government’s endeavor to ensure that every health facility in the country operates at the highest standards of safety and quality.
Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Kachallom Daju mni, who was represented by Dr. Dogara Okaro, underscored the significance of a well-regulated healthcare environment in ensuring optimal standards of operation for healthcare facilities.
Dr. Adedolapo Fashola, the Permanent Secretary of Health in the FCT, lauded the Ministry of Health’s efforts, expressing optimism that the initiative will enhance healthcare outcomes and reinforce government workers’ well-being.
In closing, Dr. Jimoh Saludeen, the Director of Health Services, extended gratitude for the commendable project, emphasizing the necessity for collective effort to achieve effective healthcare outcomes.
Members of the committee include: Dr. Richard Ajayi (Chairman), Dr. Ajibike Oyewumi, Dr. Manason Garkuwa, Dr. Tomi Coker, Dr. Aminat Ahmed El-Imam, Prof. Abubakar Kullima, Dr. Damilola Matti, Dr. Njide Ndili, Mr. Tosin Runsewe.
