The President-General of Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Comrade Amechi Asugwuni, has commended the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health and Medical Sciences, Kwale, for his dedication.
Asugwuni spoke while hosting members of the Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum in Kwale.
He urged Ndokwa sons and daughters to see the university as a collective asset and protect it.
He disclosed that during a recent visit, the Vice Chancellor conducted him round the temporary campus and permanent site.
According to him, construction work at the permanent site has reached an advanced stage.
He praised efforts to ensure a conducive learning and working environment for staff and students.
Asugwuni expressed concern over criticisms directed at the Vice Chancellor, especially regarding employment of Ndokwa indigenes.
He questioned why employing qualified indigenes should attract attacks.
He noted that the VC’s wife, a director at the University of Benin, relocated to Kwale to support the institution despite modest conditions.
The NNU leader urged Ndokwa people to embrace unity and rise above primordial sentiments.
He said the Union remained committed to building bridges across political and social divides.
According to him, unity would strengthen Ndokwa advocacy and ensure its interests receive due attention.
Asugwuni said the Union is non-partisan and focused on engaging governments and stakeholders at all levels.
He disclosed ongoing discussions on the Okpai Independent Power Plant.
He described it as unfair that the plant supplies electricity to multiple states while host communities remain underserved.
He also raised concerns over oil production benefits.
According to him, the existing nine percent oil quantum arrangement is outdated, considering the number of oil wells in the area.
He added that the Union is engaging the NDDC on issues affecting Ndokwa as a key oil and gas producing area.
Asugwuni commended the Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum for the visit and encouraged collaboration.

Earlier, the Forum’s Chairman, Comrade Barth Inneh-Ozah, said the visit aimed at strengthening communication and advancing Ndokwa aspirations.
The engagement ended with a cake-cutting ceremony marking the first anniversary of the Amechi Asugwuni-led NNU executive.
