The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has charged the management and staff of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project to redouble efforts toward achieving food security through expanded irrigated agriculture, improved dam management and enhanced hydropower generation.
Prof. Utsev gave the charge during a working visit to the SPIN Project Office in Abuja, where he was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Emanso Umobong, and some Directors.
According to a press statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan, the Minister reminded staff that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains firmly committed to delivering on its Renewed Hope Agenda across all sectors of the economy.
He noted that SPIN, as a flagship project of the Ministry, plays a critical role in scaling up irrigated farming, strengthening dam infrastructure management and boosting hydropower generation, stressing that the project must intensify efforts to meet its set targets.
Prof. Utsev expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the World Bank for ensuring the smooth take-off of the SPIN Project, adding that its successful implementation would significantly enhance food production, improve power supply through hydropower, create employment opportunities for the youth and positively impact the lives of millions of Nigerians.
The Minister also commended the management and staff of SPIN for the progress recorded so far and urged them to sustain the momentum to achieve tangible results.

In his response, the National Coordinator of SPIN, Engr. Ipinlaye Olaiya, thanked the Minister, the Permanent Secretary and the Ministry’s management for their unwavering support, which he said had contributed to the seamless commencement of the project. He reaffirmed the commitment of the SPIN team to fully deliver on its mandate.
Engr. Olaiya later led the Minister, the Permanent Secretary and other Directors on a tour of the project’s proposed new office located in Apo, Abuja.
