PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, — Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Committee Chairman, Christopher Green, says the Super Eagles have built strong momentum at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco after winning all three of their group matches, but warned the team must maintain total focus as the tournament enters its decisive stage.
Nigeria finished top of their group with a perfect record to advance to the Round of 16, a performance Green described as a powerful response to the disappointment of missing out on the last FIFA World Cup.
“The players have responded positively after the disappointment of missing the World Cup,” Green told hotnewsroundup.com. “They have shown improvement and determination.”
Green, who also serves as Rivers State Commissioner for Justice and supervises the state’s sports ministry, said the team appears mentally prepared for a title push. He credited financial incentives approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of the motivation strengthening the squad’s commitment.
“They have the momentum now,” he said.
However, Green cautioned that the Round of 16 marks the “business stage” of the competition, where a single mistake could prove costly.

“This is the business stage of the tournament. Total concentration is required,” he warned, urging the team to avoid distractions.
He added that Nigeria’s dominant showing has made them one of the standout teams to watch at AFCON but insisted complacency must not creep in as the knockout phase begins.
