Owo, Ondo State — The 1995 Set of St. John/Mary’s Unity Secondary School, Owo, Ondo State, has renovated a six-classroom block as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of their graduation from the institution.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the school premises over the weekend, brought together the school management, alumni members, former teachers, and students in a celebration of nostalgia and community spirit.
Speaking at the event, the Principal and Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Godswill Akinlewu, commended the alumni for their generosity, describing the project as a “remarkable contribution” to the school’s development.
Akinlewu said the gesture reflected the set’s enduring loyalty and commitment to their alma mater, noting that it would serve as motivation for both current students and other alumni to emulate their example.
> “We are particularly elated to see the products of this great school giving back to the institution that helped shape them. This gesture encourages us as we continue to raise new generations who will emulate such noble action in the future,” he said.
He also appealed to other graduating sets to support ongoing efforts by the school and the Ondo State Government to restore the institution to its former glory, assuring that the renovated classrooms would be properly maintained in honour of the donors.
In his remarks, Mr. Victor Akinsanmi, President of the 1995 Set Alumni Association, expressed gratitude to God for sustaining members of the set over the past three decades.
Akinsanmi said the renovation project was inspired by a collective desire to give back to the school that played a vital role in shaping their lives.
> “We look back with nostalgia to those formative years that made us who we are today. In appreciation of that foundation, we decided to give back by renovating this block of classrooms,” he said.
