Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, conducted an inspection of the refurbished chambers in anticipation of the lawmakers’ returns on Tuesday.
Accompanied by the former Speaker and Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Speaker Abbas led a group of principal officers and House members on the tour. The inspection also included a visit to the newly constructed National Assembly Library.
During a briefing with journalists in the chambers, Speaker Abbas expressed his satisfaction with the renovated appearance and the new facilities. He noted that the quality of work had dispelled any doubts about the capabilities of a local contractor handling the project.
He commended Gbajabiamila for spearheading the renovation project, as well as the construction of the NASS Library and the National Assembly Service Commission Complex.
Gbajabiamila also shared his contentment with the completed work, mentioning his preference for the renovation to have been finished before his departure from the House for his new role.
He expressed that the credit for the successful projects was extended to the members of the 9th House by the Chief of Staff to the President.
Meanwhile, The White House section of the complex, which includes the House and Senate chambers, was originally built during the military era of late General Sani Abacha. Since then, there has been no significant renovation of the two chambers.
