Shettima Commissions Tudun Biri Resettlement Site, Signals Shift to Sustainable Recovery for Conflict Victims
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday commissioned the Tudun Biri Resettlement Project in Kaduna State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to long-term recovery, dignity and livelihood restoration for communities affected by conflict and humanitarian crises.
The project was executed under the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflicts (RSPIC) and implemented by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) under the coordination of the Office of the Vice President. It aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises people-centred recovery and sustainable solutions for vulnerable populations.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Shettima described the project as a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s recovery and reconstruction efforts, noting that it reflects the administration’s resolve to protect the vulnerable and ensure that no citizen is left behind. He commended NEMA for its diligence and effective delivery of the resettlement scheme.
“This project is not just about providing shelter; it is about restoring hope, stability and a sense of belonging to Nigerians whose lives were disrupted by conflict,” the Vice President said.
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the project and lauded Vice President Shettima for his sustained commitment to its successful execution. He also commended NEMA’s leadership for prudent use of resources and effective supervision.
In her remarks, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, said the Tudun Biri project represents a strategic transition from short-term humanitarian relief to sustainable recovery and social reintegration of conflict-affected persons.
She disclosed that although the original design provided for 143 housing units, 10 units were converted—following due approval—into a school facility to meet the educational needs of the resettled community. Mrs. Umar added that RSPIC interventions are currently ongoing in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina and Benue states.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, was represented at the event.
Community members at the ceremony expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and NEMA for what they described as a timely and impactful intervention, saying the project would help restore normalcy and improve living conditions in the area.
