Abuja, Nigeria – Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has formally defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the developmental strides of Governor Monday Okpebholo as the key motivation behind his political realignment.
The defection was officially announced during Wednesday’s plenary session of the Senate, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Imasuen’s resignation letter and welcomed him into the APC fold. Akpabio assured the senator that his contributions would be recognized and valued within the ruling party.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the announcement, Senator Imasuen said his decision was anchored on the visible progress achieved by Governor Okpebholo in Edo State, describing the governor as a “progressive leader” deeply committed to transforming the state.
“To be honest with you, that’s a major reason,” Imasuen stated. “Governor Okpebholo and I were sworn in the same day. We worked closely when he was in the Senate, and now that he is the Executive Governor, I have seen the kind of work he’s done in such a short time. It’s an incentive for me to join him in building a better Edo.”
Imasuen emphasized that his defection is aimed at enhancing his effectiveness in representing the people of Edo South. He noted that alignment with the state leadership under the APC would improve collaboration and accelerate development for his constituents.

“My focus is to represent my people more effectively. Joining the APC has made decision-making and collaboration easier, and I’m confident this will help deliver more to my constituents,” he said.
With this move, the APC strengthens its political influence in Edo State, as attention turns toward upcoming political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
