Port Harcourt, Dec. 30, 2025 — The Chairman of the Rivers State Teqball Association, Mr. Halim Zaccah, says Teqball has huge potential to grow in Nigeria if adequately funded.
Zaccah said this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
He said Teqball, which was introduced into Nigeria in 2018 by the Hungarian Embassy, combines football and table tennis and suits the country’s strong football culture.
According to him, with proper support, the sport could become as popular as football in the country.
“Nigerians love football and we have great footballers. Teqball is a branch of football, and with the right support, it can grow rapidly in Nigeria,” he said.
Zaccah said the association had groomed many youths to play the sport across the country.
He said Teqball was previously featured as a demonstration sport at the National Sports Festival and would become a medal event at the next festival to be hosted by Enugu State.
The chairman said the game is currently played in more than 30 states of the federation.
He added that in Rivers State, the association had recruited youths from secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

Zaccah said Rivers State was currently dominating the women’s category at national Teqball competitions.
He commended the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Christopher Green, for his support, and also praised the association’s patron, Ambassador Paul Ngwaba, for his fatherly encouragement.
