Senator Barau commemorates General Gowon on his 90th birthday

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed his admiration for former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), as he celebrates his 90th birthday.

Senator Barau, who also holds the position of First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, praised the esteemed statesman, hailing him as the paramount advocate of national cohesion.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, over the weekend, the deputy Senate President underscored the substantial impact of the former military leader in institutionalizing the peace process in Nigeria.

“I extend my felicitations to our venerable father and distinguished elder statesman, General Yakubu Gowon, on the occasion of his 90th birthday. During his tenure as Head of State from August 1, 1966, to July 1975, he devoted himself tirelessly to safeguarding the unity of our nation.

“Over the course of the past five decades, he has been at the forefront of championing harmony and solidarity within the nation, earning him the esteemed title of chief advocate of national unity.

“As we celebrate his 90th birthday, I beseech the Almighty to bestow upon him good health and vitality, enabling us to continue benefiting from his profound reservoir of knowledge, sagacity, and experience. Warmest congratulations to our newly minted nonagenarian,” he conveyed.
